Nancy, Laramie & Joe-
Moore Ranch

The Moore Ranch is located about 9 miles south of Bucklin, Kansas, just 45 miles from historic Dodge City. The ranch is operated by Joe and Nancy Moore, with a whole lot of help from their youngest son, Laramie.
The home place is 1,416 acres, located on a creek, with trees and wide open prairie of rolling hills, but they run about 6,000 acres total. The nearest towns are Bucklin, population 725, and Protection, population 550.
Joe has been a rancher for over 30 years, and comes from a long tradition of cowboys who are also keen students of life.
He is always ready with a good story or an observation taken from many years working with all kinds of cattle, horses and people.
A true "people person", he takes great pride in introducing visitors from different cultures and walks of life to the experience of life on a working ranch.
Joe is also an accomplished team roper as well as outdoorsman, and guides deer, pheasant and quail hunts.
Nancy is a longtime resident of rural Kansas, growing up in the Northwest corner of the state, where she drove tractors for her father, baled hay, packed insulage, herded sheep, lambed out ewes, worked cattle and worked in a big garden.
She graduated from Sul Ross State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Health. Nancy is the "organizationalforce" around the ranch.
About the RanchJoe and Nancy came to this ranch about 1990, but it wasn't until 1996 that they decided to "get out of farming" opted for full time ranching. They held a huge farm sale and sold every piece of farm equipment!
Later, Nancy said "My prayer at the time was that wherever God could use us to serve Him, we would go there. If that meant leaving the ranch, we would find another way to serve God.
That was a hard thing to say, since I thought God might just take me up on it. Guess what, here we are, still on the ranch."
Gradually, they began inviting the public to the ranch so they could share their fantastic lifestyle they enjoy. Joe built a chuckwagon, and Nancy taught herself how to cook out of cast-iron dutch ovens and over an open fire. They bought some cabins from an old motel, and moved them to the ranch, renovating them when they had time.
Today, guests can stay for the day, stay overnight, or join them on the cattle drives, eating and living life large on the open prairie.
